Cabin for an Architect.
Part A
I am required to individually select three of the exemplar buildings for further study.
Aspects of my particular exemplar to be researched are:
- a house as an environmental filter;
- a house as a container of human activities; and
- a house as a delightful experience
There are three tasks in the Week 2 analysis workshop tutorial.
Task 1: students are required to jot down or sketch the important things about the topic for Project 1 on a 'post-it' note.
Task 2: Brainstorming ideas of the three interrelated and critical House Design concepts.
A HOUSE AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL FILTER :
- frames the environment
- inside/outside
- consideration of climate
- adapt to environment
- take advantages of site/context
- form interacts with geography (topography)
- sense of place
- experience/emotion
- local materials/resources
- footprint (carbon)
- light/wind/sound/heat/cooling + ventilation
- views
- neighbours
- constraints/opportunities
- program of spaces - public/private
A HOUSE AS A CONTAINER OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES :
- zoning & circulation (private/public)
- function
- relationships (spatial)
- efficient use of space
- catering for people needs
- universal design - design for everyone (ergonomic equity)
- transition/change - relation to adjacency
- collocation space distribution and schedule areas - efficiency cost
- content in relation to clients needs - family house
- context in relation to place - rules and regulations of the site
HOUSE AS A DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE :
- materials
- texture
- natural light
- views
- journey - approach
- comfort
- scale
- form
- good use of conditions
- access to fresh air/breeze
- isolation/quiet
- utilities
- security
- shade
- tectonic
- accessibility - public places/transport
- structure - quality, volume of space, character, expression of space
Task 3: Web 2.0
